Oil Giants look at the potential of Green Hydrogen
As we see oil giant Total enter an agreement with SSE for a majority share in the 1.1GW Off-Shore Wind project with an option for an extension for 360MW we have to ask the question is this the way forward for our oil companies to ensure we meet our 2020 targets,

This move is a giant step forward for Total as it develops its Offshore Wind portfolio that will deliver increased profits while reducing carbon emissions to the group. Total will leverage its expertise in offshore operations and maintenance to ensure the project is successful as they work alongside a leading Wind Developer.
The potential for zero carbon energy is enormous as this zero carbon Hydrogen can help deliver the decarbonisation of the Natural Gas Network.
Using the power from Offshore Wind can generate 100% green hydrogen which can be injected into the gas grid for the use of heating in homes, offices and industry together with reducing transport emissions.
This development should significantly increase the energy produced from offshore wind and will be a major step forward in achieving our 2050 net zero targets.
For this infrastructure to be realised it will require significant cooperation between all the major players including; Regulators, Government, Utility Network Operators, Energy Suppliers, Wind Developers and Marine Industry
At Hydrogen Ireland we are committed to work with all key influencers to ensure the success of Offshore Power to X.
