Ireland Has the Ambition, It Has the Confidence, All It
Needs Is Momentum

Ireland stands on the cusp of one of the greatest industrial transformations in its history.
The global shift toward clean fuels is accelerating, and hydrogen has emerged as a
cornerstone of the new energy economy, a clean energy vector that can decarbonise
heavy transport, stabilise energy systems, power industry, and unlock new export
markets. Around the world, countries are racing to position themselves as leaders in
green hydrogen. Ireland is not just in that race, it is uniquely equipped to win it.

  • Ireland has the ambition.
  • Ireland has the confidence.
  • All it needs is the momentum.

Ireland’s Strategic Foundations Are Already in Place

Ireland’s potential is not theoretical, it is structural. With world‑class wind resources, a
strong engineering base, and a growing clean‑tech ecosystem, the country has the
ingredients required to build a globally competitive hydrogen economy.
Three national developments now anchor this ambition:

  1. The National Hydrogen Strategy
Ireland’s Hydrogen Strategy sets out a clear pathway for integrating green hydrogen into
transport, industry, power, and export markets. It provides the policy direction needed
to unlock investment, scale infrastructure, and build confidence across the energy
    system.
  2. The Hydrogen Task Force
The establishment of the Hydrogen Task Force signals a step‑change in national
coordination. Bringing together government, industry, academia, and regulators, the
Task Force is shaping the frameworks, standards, and delivery mechanisms required to
accelerate deployment. It is the engine room for Ireland’s hydrogen governance.
  3. Ireland’s Hydrogen Valleys — Including SH2AMROCK, GleanCelt, Hybernia and more
Hydrogen Valleys are the proving grounds of the new energy economy, integrated regional ecosystems where production, storage, distribution, and end‑use come together.

Ireland’s flagship Hydrogen Valley project, SH2AMROCK, is demonstrating how hydrogen can power transport, industry, and community energy systems while supporting rural development and innovation. These Valleys are not pilots; they are the early architecture of Ireland’s future hydrogen economy.
Together, these initiatives show that Ireland is not starting from scratch, it is already building momentum.

A Nation Built For Hydrogen Leadership

Few countries possess Ireland’s natural advantages. With some of the world’s best wind resources, both onshore and offshore, Ireland has the potential to generate far more renewable electricity than it can consume domestically. Hydrogen is the bridge that turns this abundance into economic opportunity.

Hydrogen allows Ireland to:
• Convert surplus wind into a storable, tradable clean fuel
• Decarbonise sectors that electricity alone cannot reach
• Strengthen energy security by reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels
• Build a new industrial base around green fuels, manufacturing, and innovation
• Position itself as a strategic energy exporter to Europe

The ambition is already visible in Ireland’s national strategies, industry initiatives, and growing ecosystem of innovators. The confidence is evident in the engineering talent, the research capability, and the willingness of Irish companies to lead.
But ambition and confidence alone are not enough.

What Ireland Needs Now, Acceleration
To turn potential into reality, Ireland needs decisive acceleration in three areas:

  1. Infrastructure Delivery
Electrolysers, pipelines, storage, ports, and refuelling networks must move from concept to construction. The technology is ready, the infrastructure must follow.
  2. Regulatory Clarity
Clear frameworks for hydrogen certification, planning, grid access, and Guarantees of Origin will unlock investment and give industry the certainty it needs to scale.
  3. Market Signals
Long‑term policy signals, early‑mover incentives, and public‑private partnerships will catalyse demand in transport, industry, and power.
Ireland does not need to reinvent the wheel. It needs to accelerate deployment, remove friction, and back the early movers who are already building the foundations of a hydrogen economy.
    A Once‑in‑a‑Generation Opportunity
Hydrogen is not simply a climate solution; it is an economic strategy.
It is a pathway to energy independence, industrial renewal, and global competitiveness.
    • Ireland has the ambition.
    • Ireland has the confidence.
    • All it needs is the momentum to turn vision into value.

If Ireland accelerates now, it can secure its place as a European leader in green hydrogen, exporting clean molecules, advanced technologies, and world‑class expertise to a world that urgently needs them.

The window is open. The opportunity is real. The hydrogen economy is Ireland’s to lead.
