Bus Eireann are planning to conduct an in service trial running buses using hydrotreated vegetable oil, a greener diesel like biofuel made using vegetable oil. The company are working on projects aimed at halving the greenhouse gas emissions of its fleet by 2030. This is part of the Climate Action Plan 2021 and its sustainability strategy. Bus Eireann has swapped the entire Galway city service to hybrid vehicles and operates three hydrogen fuel cell double decker buses in a pilot on commuter routes in the Greater Dublin area.
