Hydrogen Ireland have today welcomed Bord Na Mona plans to submit plans for two offshore wind projects by the end of 2023. The offshore windfarms will be at two locations on the east coast. Tom Donnellan, Chief Executive of Bord Na Mona said: “The move into offshore is a natural evolution for us. We believe this is the future and there’s a huge opportunity there to leverage our expertise. So yes, we see these two projects as the first step. And we see them as the first step of hopefully many more projects even on the west coast. From a strategic point of view, the next step is hydrogen. We’re currently experimenting and doing projects on hydrogen. But offshore wind is the route to hydrogen, because you need the low cost energy. As part of our diversification play, this is very logical to us.”
