A number of Hydrogen Ireland members took part in the Energy Ireland event in Dublin on June 29-30, 2022. Dr Rory Monaghan from GenComm Partner ,NUIG chaired a session, ‘Future Energy. Ireland’s Hydrogen Economy’. Speaking on ‘Developing Ireland’s Hydrogen Economy’, Dr Monaghan said: “We could become a hydrogen exporter through ships or pipelines. Irish green hydrogen could meet 20% of EU aviation fuel demand or 25% of EU shipping fuel demand. Mr John Finnegan, Principal Officer of the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications spoke on, ‘Towards a hydrogen strategy for Ireland’. Mr Finnegan said a public consultation document on a hydrogen strategy is to be published in the coming days, closing eight weeks after. Meadhbh Connolly, Innovation Manager, ESB Generation and Trading spoke on ‘Key enablers for net zero: Energy Storage and Hydrogen’. John O Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer of dCarbonX spoke on ‘The role of hydrogen storage in decarbonising Ireland’s energy’. Catherine Sheridan, Chief Operating Officer Manager, EI-H2 and German-Irish Hydrogen Council spoke on ‘Green hydrogen Ireland’s energy export opportunity’. Ms Sheridan said: “We must develop and implement ambitious policies because the trajectory we set ourselves on now will define the sector for decades. We need to resource public bodies appropriately and charge developers accordingly.”
